Bridget Flynn only spent half of her high school career at Ocean City High School.
After two very successful years at Holy Spirit, she transferred to OCHS and expanded her success as South Jersey’s best middle distance runner. She won South Jersey championships in the 800 and 1600 meters both years at OCHS and won the Billy Schoppy Memorial Award as the best overall female athlete in the Cape-Atlantic League’s Class of 2015.
All of that success makes Flynn the choice as Girls Track Athlete of the 2nd Decade (2010-19) at OCHS.
But there were many other great performers during the 10 years who join her on the all-decade team.
Sophia Gresham, who graduated just over two months ago, is on the team for the 100 and 200 meters, the long jump and as part of the 4×100 relay team. The dominant Maddie Bradway is the choice for both the shot put and the discus. And Devon Grisbaum and Alexa Weber, who were both selected for the 3200, were two of the best distance runners in the state and earned seven CAL all star selections between them.
Joining Flynn, Gresham, Grisbaum and Weber on the track are Mackenzie Matura in the 100 hurdles, all star Rachel Stremme in the 400 hurdles and Erin Hanlon, who has two more seasons as a Raider, in the 400 meters.
Bradway is joined in the throwing events by record-holder Kayleigh Stark in the javelin. And joining Gresham in the jumps are two-time all star Rachel Wright in the high jump, record-holder Maryanna Oberg in the pole vault and record-holder Allie Zelinski in the triple jump.
The all-decade 4×400 meter relay team is Hanlon, Grace Burke, Megan Gereaghty and Maggie Halbruner. The 4×100 team is Gresham, Matura, Tori Rolls and Zelinski. And the 4×800 relay team was loaded with powerful middle distance runners – Cierra Granger, Grisbaum, Flynn and Stremme.

Coaches Tim Cook and Kevin Greene kept the Raiders’ record perfect in the county meet, winning all 10 years in the decade. And Bridget Flynn, a versatile runner who was a winner in elite company and ran successfully at Dartmouth where she was an academic All-American, earns the nod as the Raiders’ best of the decade. She joins Renee Tomlin (1st Decade), Kellie Adams (1990s) and Melody Sye (80s) as Ocean City High School Girls Track Athletes of the Decade.
Next week – the Baseball Team of the Decade.
