Sam Carchidi, one of the top sportswriters on the East Coast, will be in Ocean City tomorrow.

A multiple winner as New Jersey Sportswriter of the Year, Carchidi has also written six books. His latest is “Bullies”, about the championship years of the Philadelphia Flyers.

Carchidi will be signing copies of that book tomorrow at allCampus, a sports hat shop on the Ocean City Boardwalk between 10th Street and 11th Street. The signing will be held from 5-9pm when Carchidi will also talk about all things surrounding the Philadelphia Flyers, past and present.

The book is filled with never-before-told stories about the Flyers, then known as the Broad Street Bullies, during their heyday in the 1970s. And how their Stanley Cup championships changed their lives over the last 50-plus years. There is a chapter devoted to the late Gene Hart, the Hall of Fame broadcaster who was a successful athlete at Pleasantville High School.

Carchidi covered sports for The Philadelphia Inquirer for more than 40 years, including the Flyers, Phillies and high school sports. He and Bullies co-author, Jeff Hare, a Hollywood director, are talking with production studios about their plans to turn the book into a TV series or movie.

Carchidi’s other books included two others about the Flyers; a book about legendary Philadelphia sportscaster Bill Campbell; and books about two football players who suffered paralyzing injuries – Penn State cornerback Adam Taliaferro from South Jersey and Buffalo Bills tight end Kevin Everett. Both recovered from their injuries. He also contributed to the book “Worst to First: The Story of the 1983 Phillies”.
