Linden Wineland wins Frank Campo Award

Mainland senior Linden Wineland was named the winner of the Frank Campo Humanitarian Award, created by Schoppy, Inc. and Prime Events, and presented annually to the Cape-Atlantic League senior varsity athlete whose academic achievement and dedication to community and service are an inspiration to future high school student-athletes.

The award recognizes Campo, the longtime athletics director at Atlantic City, for his decades of dedication to CAL student-athletes.

Wineland, who will attend Lehigh University, was the Cape-Atlantic League champion in cross country and a multiple all star in track. He served as captain of both teams.

Wineland was president of the Class of 2022 at Mainland and president of the school’s Key Club. He was a member of the National Honor Society with a grade point average of 5.09. He is a Post Crasher at the Harvey D. Johnson American Legion Post 295 where he aids veterans, assembles meals and helped refurbish the post building. He was a member of the Tri-M Music Honor Society where he played piano and percussion instruments, reorganized the library and tutored a middle schooler on the piano. He was also president of Mainland’s Future Science Professionals and serves as a lifeguard with the Margate City Beach Patrol.

Normally the award is presented as part of The CAL Celebration on the Ocean City Music Pier along with other awards. But that event was cancelled last month due to COVID-19 exposure.
