OCYAA holds 1st place in Little League pool play

The Ocean City Youth Athletic Association’s Little League all star team defeated Hammonton, 7-1, on Monday at Harry Vanderslice Memorial Field in a battle between two teams that had won their opening games in District 16 pool play.

Pitchers Evan Taylor and Colin Thompson combined to limit the Hammonton hitters. Hammonton had defeated Lower Cape May, 15-0, in its first game while the OCYAA had defeated Absecon, 12-2.

Eddie Wisham and Cole Laursen hit back-to-back home runs that powered the Ocean City offense.

The OCYAA will be back in action tomorrow (Wednesday) night at 7 p.m. at Lower Cape May. A win there would put the team in a strong position to qualify for the double elimination finals that are scheduled to begin on July 2. The top two teams from each pool will qualify for the finals. Ocean City’s final pool game will be on Sunday (5:30pm) against Downbeach at Vanderslice Field.
