Two juniors – Mainland’s Colin Cooke and Middle Township’s Kira Sides – were the scoring leaders this spring in Cape-Atlantic League lacrosse, according to the statistics supplied by the league’s teams.
Cooke scored 63 goals, six more than Rob Nawrocki of Cedar Creek. Sides won the girls scoring title for the second straight year and will enter her senior year with 290 career goals.
Junior Maddie Barber of Middle Township led CAL girls in assists with 69. Freshman Hayley Henderson of Egg Harbor Township was tops in ground balls. Senior Danielle Donoghue of Ocean City controlled 164 draws. And Lower Cape May senior Mel Amador led goalies in total saves and save percentage.
Among the boys, Ocean City senior Anthony Inserra led the CAL in assists; junior Andrew Venuto of Egg Harbor Township was tops in ground balls; Ocean City senior Bill Kroeger had the highest face-off winning percentage; junior Luke Wescoat of Absegami made the most saves in goal; and junior Luke Spotta of Holy Spirit had the best save percentage.
Ocean City won the American Conference championships with undefeated conference seasons in both boys and girls lacrosse. In the National Conference, Mainland was the boys champ and the Middle Township girls won.
