When Gabby Eaise’s brother, Kevin, was diagnosed with cancer, she and her family went into action. They created The Eaise Family Foundation to raise money for cancer research and Gabby was an active part of that effort.
Kevin recovered, became an all star pitcher at St. Augustine Prep, leading the Hermits to three South Jersey titles and one state championship. He went on to be selected Ivy League Pitcher of the Year at Penn, finished his baseball career with a great season at North Carolina and is now studying to become a doctor. Ironically, he is training under the doctor who performed surgery on him as a child.
That is one example of the involvement of Gabby Eaise, who graduated from Our Lady of Mercy Academy this year, helping the people around her. But there are many more examples.
She was the coordinator of Pajama Day at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
She was part of the Rotary Youth Leadership Conference at Stockton University.
She was active in The Campus Ministry and was a School Ambassador.
She was a facilitator for Sister Speak, was active involved in the Big-Little Mentor Movement and regularly made PB&J (peanut butter and jelly sandwiches) for the homeless.
By the way, while doing all these things and having success in the classroom, Gabby also had a record-setting lacrosse career at Our Lady of Mercy Academy. She played field hockey in the fall for four years but her four years on the lacrosse field were exceptional. She scored 204 career goals for 266 career points, including 82 in one season, all OLMA school records.
Gabby now moves on to Ursinus College, where she will play lacrosse and study biology, working toward a career as a veterinarian.
Gabby is the 12th winner of the Frank Campo Memorial Humanitarian Award, created by Prime Events and Schoppy Inc. in 2014 when Campo retired after a legendary career as Atlantic City High School’s athletics director. When Campo died last year, the award became a memorial. You can read about the previous 11 winners HERE.
Over the last couple decades, awards like The Campo Award were presented at an annual celebration of the CAL on the Ocean City Music Pier. But circumstances forced the cancellation of that event this year and all Prime Events awards, including the Campo Award, are being distributed through the CAL’s 22 athletics directors.
Tomorrow the Cape-Atlantic League school that won The Ed Byrnes Memorial All-Sports Award for the 2024-25 school year will be announced.
